By dividing course participants into groups, you can assign certain materials, activities or course sections only to members of that group. 


You can divide participants into groups at either course or activity level.


Creating a group
  • Choose Managing tools > Edit course settings > Groups > Group mode
    • Separate groups: the members in the group can only see eachother and eachother's work
    • Visible groups: Participants work in their own groups but can see other participants work too


  • Choose save and display
  • Create groups by choosing the Actions menu(top right corner)> More... > Users > Groups > Create group
    • Give the group a name.
    • If you want, you can add an enrolment key for the group.



Adding participants to groups

  • From Managing tools choose Participants and the Actions menu above the Enrol users button. Choose Groups.


  • Select the group you wish to add members to and click Add/remove users


  • Choose members from the box on the right and click Add.



  • You can also add members to groups from the same Actions menu choosing Enrolled users. 



  • Click on the pen icon in the Groups column.
  • Write the name of the group or choose it from the drop down menu.
